Some of the concerns with which students approach a counsellor are prolonged sadness, worry, stress, anxiety, low self esteem, lethargy, procrastination and so on.
Any concern or experience, from an everyday concern to a unique circumstance or situation can constitute a reason to seek help from a Counsellor. Common reasons why students have sought counselling include:
  • Academic problems, procrastination, difficulty keeping to deadlines, low confidence
  • Distress related to peer relationships

Counselling helps to enhance the overall well-being of the student. It is a process in which the student and the counsellor work towards a common goal which is beneficial for the student. This can lead to a satisfactory and beneficial change in the thoughts, feelings and behaviour of the individual. It can enable them to cope with unmanageable situations in the best way possible and help improve self esteem, confidence, reduce stress and anxiety.
A counselling session is generally for 60 minutes, unless otherwise pre-decided.
The duration of the Counselling process differs for each individual. You could have one session which many students find is enough or have upto 5-6 sessions. Depending upon the concerns that each student has, the number of sessions vary. On an average, counselling sessions can extend between 2-6 sessions which can be organised to suit your schedule.
