Why Young Scholarz Is Taking the Next Step in Dubai

I’ve never believed in staying in one place simply for the sake of it. I trained as a biochemist because that was what people of my generation and background often did. Later, I moved into chartered accountancy because I wanted to understand how systems actually worked. My career then took me through auditing businesses across the UK, Europe and the Channel Islands before I moved into luxury hospitality in India. Eventually, I found my real calling in teaching. I began teaching English analytically and breaking down a subject that many people assumed you either “had” or didn’t. My aim was to make it systematic, structured and learnable.

None of these changes followed a carefully planned path. Looking back, however, I can see how each stage prepared me for the next. Over the years, I have come to believe that reinvention is not a departure from who you are. In many ways, it is how you become who you are. Every stage of my career has given me tools that I did not know I would eventually need.

I think about that often when I look at where Young Scholarz is today. Nineteen years ago, I started as a one-woman tutoring operation. In the beginning, I taught chemistry and biology because those were the subjects students and parents most often came to me for. Since then, Young Scholarz has gone through several reinventions of its own. Our biggest transformation came during COVID, when we rebuilt the business as an entirely online platform. That decision changed what was possible because geography no longer limited us. Today, our teachers work with students across countries and time zones. We have educators based as far afield as Venezuela, while many of our students study in Singapore and other parts of the world. Over the years, our specialism in IB and IGCSE English has helped more than 1,500 students move towards university offers.

Building Beyond One Person

For much of Young Scholarz’s history, growth depended directly on me. My teaching, my reputation and the number of hours I could personally commit all shaped the size of the business. That model worked when Young Scholarz was smaller, but it cannot support the next stage of our growth.

Moving into the UAE therefore represents more than entry into a new market. It forms part of a deliberate shift towards building a Young Scholarz that can grow beyond one founder’s personal capacity. The next stage must rest on a strong team, a proven methodology and a track record that can speak for itself. My own experience has taught me that growth does not always mean doing more of what has worked before. Sometimes, it means recognising that the thing that helped you build something may not take you where you want to go next. That lesson has shaped many of the decisions I have made throughout my career.

Why I Chose Dubai

Dubai was not a random choice. When I began considering where Young Scholarz should take its next formal step, I thought about the families we have worked with for the past nineteen years. Many of them are ambitious and internationally minded. They also navigate education systems that stretch across countries and continents. Their concerns often go beyond the next examination. Parents and students want to understand how education connects to university, careers and opportunities around the world. Young Scholarz has been having that conversation with families since the very beginning.

Dubai brings many of those worlds together. The city has a diverse population and a strong international school community. Families there already understand the value of globally recognised curricula such as the IB and Cambridge IGCSE. More importantly, many of the families we hope to meet are asking questions that we already hear elsewhere in the world. They want strong academic support, but they also want guidance that looks beyond individual examinations. That combination made Dubai a natural choice for me. For me, Dubai also represents something that has always been central to Young Scholarz. Good education should not be constrained by borders. Our online model already allows teachers and students to work together across countries and time zones.

Taking our next formal step in Dubai therefore feels like a natural progression. The city brings together different cultures, nationalities and education systems. It also provides a place where nineteen years of experience can meet a community that understands international education.

Taking the Next Step

Young Scholarz will take part in the UAE Global Education Fair, organised by BMI, on 2nd and 3rd October. The event marks our first formal step into the region. We are not arriving with a generic sales pitch. Instead, we are bringing something specific that we have developed and refined over nearly two decades. Our approach to teaching IB Diploma English A and Cambridge IGCSE English has delivered consistent results. More importantly, we now have a growing team that can take this approach beyond the limits of any one person’s calendar. The future of Young Scholarz cannot simply depend on me working more hours. Instead, the business needs to grow because the systems, teachers and methods behind it are strong enough to support that growth.

One idea runs through my career and nineteen years of building Young Scholarz. Lasting growth does not come from simply repeating what worked before. It requires you to examine what brought you here and make changes when the next stage demands something different. That is what this move represents for us. We are not expanding simply because growth is expected. Nor are we entering Dubai merely to add another market to our name. Instead, we are taking the next honest step in the evolution of Young Scholarz. We would love to meet the families, students, schools and counsellors attending the fair. More importantly, we would like to begin a conversation about what a genuine partnership with Young Scholarz could look like in the UAE. After nineteen years, I have learned that the most important opportunities often come when you trust what you have built and remain willing to take it somewhere new.
