Description

The IB IO, or the IB Individual Oral, is a component that is internally assessed by the teacher and externally reviewed by the IB at the end of the academic year. It carries 30% weightage out of the entire syllabus, while Papers 1 and 2 hold 35% weightage each. The Individual Oral is assessed in 15 minutes. The Individual Oral helps prompt students to explore and elaborate on points of contact between different texts while coming up with possible options to choose for the assessment. Students should be encouraged to make use of this opportunity as the syllabus is flexible in one’s choice of texts. The areas covered in this component are mainly those pertaining to global issues.

Students need to prepare a response beforehand, and prepare it based on an extract each from a literary and a non-literary text. This extract should answer the prompt in a span of 10 minutes. Post that, there would be a round of questions by the teacher, which would take 5 minutes of the presentation. This is where Young Scholarz steps in, and enrolling for this course helps you build the skills required for an effective oral presentation. Even though it is a matter of only 15 minutes, it takes up almost a third of your score, as opposed to the other components that give you ample amount of time to furnish an answer.

Join this course and explore all options made available to you to help you answer this component effectively and to the best of your abilities!
